In the continuously developing modern technological and information society, the need for mathematics that is relevant to the development of such society is rapidly increasing. In the Department of Applied Mathematics, the objective is to produce researchers, engineers, teaching staff and civil servants who can understand applied mathematics, based on the philosophy that mathematical and logical thinking capacity is necessary in order to keep up with changes in technology.

Research Groups & Research Areas

  • Statistical Science

In this area, we look into basic methods for analyzing and predicting uncertain phenomena. By learning probability statistics, you will acquire the theoretical basis for methods which are indispensable for the extraction and analysis of essential information from a large data volume.

Hashiguchi Research Group / Kurosawa Research Group / Murakami Research Group / Seo Research Group / Yanagida Research Group

  • Computational Mathematics

This area relates to computational theory for understanding various phenomena of natural and social science. Here you will learn the mathematical basis for the design and development of computational algorithms and the like, as well as how to apply and put them into practice.
