Based on the results of joint research of Prof. Shin Aoki, Dr. Tomohiro Tanaka, and Dr. Kenta Yokoi at Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Department of Medicinal and Life Sciences) with Prof. Mika Okamoto and Prof. Masanori Baba at the Division of Infection Control Research, Center for Advanced Science Research and Promotion, Kagoshima University, and Dr. Masaaki Toyama (current affiliation: National Institute of Infectious Diseases),regarding development of anti-SARS-CoV-2 drugs, both universities have applied to the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) for support in transferring the patent mentioned above to foreign countries.
We have recently received the notification from JST that they have decided to support the transfer of the patent to the United States. In response to this decision, Tokyo University of Science and Kagoshima University will proceed with the transfer of the patent to Japan, China, and Europe in addition to the United States, and will explore the possibility of joint development research with pharmaceutical companies that are interested in this invention.
