On April 28, 2022, the THE University Impact Rankings 2022 were released by Times Higher Education (THE), a British magazine reporting on higher education, and the results put Tokyo University of Science (TUS) in 1st place among private universities in Japan (91st globally, 7th among all universities in Japan) for "SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure."
The THE University Impact Rankings are social contribution-focused global university rankings that evaluate universities according to their relative contributions towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) put forward by the United Nations.
For SDG 9, universities' rankings are based on the relative role they play in promoting innovation and addressing industrial needs. TUS, in particular, was rated highly in terms of university-led venture business creation and university-industry collaboration-derived research revenue.
In terms of overall ranking for the combined SDGs, TUS is 4th among private universities in Japan (301st-400th globally, 15th among all universities in Japan).
As one of Japan's leading comprehensive science and technology universities, TUS will continue to make ever greater efforts to help society in becoming more sustainable.
