Conclusion of an academic exchange agreement with the Nicolaus Copernicus University (Poland)

On February 19, 2006, the Tokyo University of Science entered into an academic exchange agreement with the Nicolaus Copernicus University of Poland. This date-February 19-also marks the birthday of the astronomer for whom the university was named.The Nicolaus Copernicus University is a general university that was established in Torun, Poland, in 1945. It has a student body of approximately 34,000 and a teaching staff of some 1,400, and is comprised of 14 science- and arts-related faculties. Torun features a beautiful medieval townscape that was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1997. It is also the birthplace of Copernicus, who espoused the heliocentric theory. Through this agreement, TUS and the NCU will engage in the
following activities in research and educational fields:
1) Exchange of researchers;
2) Exchange of Graduate School students;
3) Promotion of cooperation in research and education;
4) Exchange of information and publications; and
5) Promotion of other academic activities.
