Astrophysics and Observational Science Unit
This unit brings together a cross-disciplinary team of researchers in space-related fields of the physical sciences, including X-ray astronomy, cosmology, particle physics, and Earth and planetary sciences.By integrating these diverse areas, we aim to promote comprehensive research in the broad field of space science, from the origin and evolution of the Universe to the formation and history of the Earth.
We investigate a wide range of phenomena, from extreme astrophysical objects such as neutron stars, black holes, and galaxy clusters to the formation and evolution of the Earth and planets, through both theoretical and observational approaches. By bringing together the diverse expertise in space and planetary research at our university, we seek to advance interdisciplinary research and contribute to the development of a world-class research hub through international collaboration, education, and engagement with society.
The unit will also promote outreach activities based on its research achievements in collaboration with the Space Education Unit.

Our university is home to research laboratories covering a wide range of fields related to space and planetary science, including the Universe, the Solar System, the Earth, and particle physics. We are pleased to announce the launch of a new research unit that aims to organically connect the activities of these laboratories and establish a hub for the comprehensive promotion of research on space and the Earth.
In this unit, we will advance cross-disciplinary collaboration while drawing on the expertise of each research field. Through this collaboration, we aim to develop research from a broad perspective, ranging from the origin of the Universe to the formation and evolution of the Solar System and the Earth, and further to the fundamental laws of matter. We also seek to develop this unit as an international research hub by promoting workshops, research meetings, and collaborative projects, thereby deepening exchanges with researchers in Japan and abroad.
Through the activities of this unit, we will contribute to the further development of space and planetary research at our university and to the cultivation of the next generation of researchers. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
