Introduction

For the modern world, computer-based information and communications technology (ICT) is a crucial technology found in every high-tech device and machine, making it indispensable to the functioning of society. In addition, the fields of materials science and electronics, which produce the hardware upon which ICT is run, as well as the fields of energy and control, which enable the hardware to be powered and operated, are also of indispensable importance.
