Structure of TUS’s startup creation & growth support

The startup creation & growth support and community-based initiative department of the TUS Organization for Innovation and Social Collaboration supports faculty and students who are leveraging their research results and ideas to solve challenging social issues, while facilitating the creation and growth of university-developed startups.
In addition, the department runs the university’s own ecosystem TUSIDE (Tokyo University of Science Innovation Driven Ecosystem) while rallying the resources of its three constituent organizations,* assisting startups across their entire life cycle from seed to exit.

While the creation of university-developed startups is one of its key initiatives, TUS has delegated the task of supporting such startups to the startup creation & growth support and community-based initiative department of the TUS Organization for Innovation and Social Collaboration. As you may know, startups are now attracting much media interest, and with society placing high expectations on startups, more and more TUS faculty and students are aspiring to start their own businesses. Meanwhile, it is also true that many others who have produced innovative research results, intellectual property, and ideas are standing on the sidelines quietly looking on, thinking that the life of an entrepreneur is not for them. As a first step toward founding your own startup, how about just envisioning to see how the research you’ve already done can be utilized in creating novel value? By reviewing your research results from diverse angles, you may be able to extract from them some seeds of innovation. This will also help deepen your research. Once you have identified such seeds, please contact us for a consultation, as our startup creation & growth support and community-based initiative department can assist you with incubating those seeds. Let’s cultivate them together, with excitement and wonder about what sort of fruit they will eventually bear.

Support model of the TUS Organization for Innovation and Social Collaboration

TUS supports startups across their entire life cycle, through TUSIDE, the university’s own ecosystem designed to assist startups, from creation to growth.
Under this scheme, the TUS Organization for Innovation and Social Collaboration provides hands-on support to cultivate entrepreneurship and guide startups from the seed phase to the early stage, encompassing research, business feasibility study, and commercialization.
In addition, such support is extended through the growth stage for Certified TUS-developed startups.
To run a business, its management must have a 360-degree view, as each business faces its own unique set of issues and challenges.
That’s why we are here to provide optimal support for your entrepreneurial endeavors, while sharing the issues of the faculty, students, and other stakeholders involved, and coordinating the resources of the university, TUSIDE (TUSIM and TUSIC), and external entities such as the national government, municipalities, and local communities.
