About the Areas of Study Mechanical Engineering
This program is made up of the following specialties: Mechanics of Materials, Materials Science, Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Dynamics of Machinery, Design Engineering, and Process Engineering. Research conducted within the program takes directions that are both progressive and multifaceted, including:
• Investigation of destructive mechanisms from mesoscopic perspectives and application  of computer simulations toward this end
• Study of high-speed meteor impacts on space shuttles and damage profiles for next- generation composite materials for aircraft
• Fluid dynamics of particles, droplets, and bubbles toward resolution of environmental  issues
• Simulation of turbulence using supercomputers
• Thermal fluid dynamics under microgravity conditions for experiments on space stations
• Research and development of energy-saving equipment
• Micromechanical engineering and heat engineering with a view to application in medical  care and living organisms
• In-process sensing in process engineering toward realization of various types of  machinery and devices; studies of control, processing robots, vibration suppression, and  ultraprecise surfaces
