The Architecture graduate program Faculty of Science and Engineering's Department of Architecture is made up of nine specialties: Architectural Planning, Architectural Design, History of Architecture, Urban Planning, Building Construction, Structural Mechanics, Building Materials, Architectural Disaster Prevention, and Building Environmental Engineering Research. The program promotes laboratory- and practice-based research that incorporates all of the above-mentioned specialties.
Architecture that is founded on science and engineering typically emphasizes artistic aspects, such as spatial design that is symbolized by aesthetics. It also tends to focus on technologies to ensure safety during times of disaster (earthquake, fire, etc.) as well as technical aspects (OA systems, etc.) in the form of facilities that ensure building comfort. These aspects are born more from consideration of the needs of society than from the results of research. In architecture, the selection of fields that match students' aptitude is of particular importance. This program pursues a broad range of research-from physics-related fields to artistic aspects-that makes such selection fully possible.
